Baking pan size converter: scale any recipe to the pan you have

A different pan, the same recipe. Compare base areas, scale your ingredients and keep a printable list.

Use one scaling option for one intended change. Enable both only for an additional serving adjustment.

Recipe pan
Your pan

This compares flat base areas, not capacity. Use inside base measurements. It assumes similar pan depth and straight sides; it does not model sloped sides or center tubes.

Servings

Both options multiply: pan-area ratio × target servings ÷ original servings. Serving scaling is an extra adjustment after pan scaling, not a second way to describe the same change. It changes the amount per pan, so this is not a capacity or fill-level check.

Your ingredients

Optional: enter up to five ingredients. Use decimals (for example, 0.5 for ½). Units stay exactly as entered; this tool does not convert ingredient units.

For pans of different depths, baking time may vary; check doneness according to your recipe’s instructions.

How it’s calculated

Round area = π × (diameter ÷ 2)². Square area = side². Rectangle area = length × width. Pan multiplier = your pan’s area ÷ recipe pan’s area. Serving multiplier = target ÷ original servings. Total multiplier = selected multipliers multiplied together. Each ingredient quantity × total multiplier gives its new quantity.

Dimensions in cm are divided by 2.54 before areas are compared. Displayed numbers are rounded; calculations use the unrounded multiplier.

Pan conversion examples

9x13 pan to 8x8 conversion

64 ÷ 117 = 0.55×. 1 cup flour → 0.55 cup.

Convert 9 inch round to 8 inch round

(8 ÷ 9)² = 0.79×.

Questions about recipe scaling

How do I scale a recipe for a different pan?

Divide the new pan’s base area by the original pan’s base area, then multiply each ingredient quantity by that ratio. This is an area comparison, not a pan-capacity calculation.

What is the 9x13 to 8x8 conversion factor?

An 8 × 8 inch square has 64 square inches of base area. A 9 × 13 inch rectangle has 117. The ratio is 64 ÷ 117 = 0.547008…: about 0.55 times each ingredient.

Can I adjust pan size and servings together?

Yes. The total multiplier is the pan-area ratio multiplied by target servings divided by original servings. This adds a serving adjustment on top of pan scaling and changes the amount per pan. Use only one option if both describe the same intended change.
