Will it fit through the door? Furniture moving calculator
Will my couch fit through the door? Start with its full outside dimensions, including feet and packaging. This furniture fit through door calculator checks a rigid box; it does not model a sofa’s curved arms or compressible cushions.
Illustrative top view; not a handling plan.
Measure twice. Use the narrowest clear opening after accounting for door frames, baseboards, handrails and other obstructions. Allow room for hands and protect yourself; this is not a guarantee that an item can be moved. For heavy furniture, consult a professional mover.
The model assumes level floors, rigid furniture, long empty corridor arms and sufficient staging space. Standing an item upright is tested as a fixed orientation, not the lifting motion. With a hallway enabled, doorway tilt is not combined with a turn. Ceiling height is checked, but stairs, wall thickness and full 3D maneuvers are not modeled. A failed box check may still be resolved by safe disassembly or a different route.
How it’s calculated
We test all six assignments of box dimensions to width, travel length and height. For a door-only tilt θ, the required face is w cos θ + h sin θ by w sin θ + h cos θ. For the hallway, L is travel length, w is width, and a and b are corridor widths. We test L ≤ a/sin θ + b/cos θ − w/(sin θ cos θ) at 0.1° steps from 0.1° to 89.9°, and w ≤ a, b at the endpoints. The thin-rod limit (w = 0) is (a^(2/3) + b^(2/3))^(3/2); it is not used as the furniture formula.
Door clearance is the smaller total opening surplus. Turn clearance is the uniform amount removable from both corridor widths before collision; it is not a gap on each side. We take the smallest door, turn and ceiling clearance. Less than 1 inch (2.54 cm), including contact, is borderline. Numerical sampling is an approximation. 1 inch = 2.54 cm.

Questions before moving
How do I get a couch through a door?
Measure the full couch and the clear doorway first. Compare side and upright orientations, then check the approach and hallway. Remove only parts designed to be removed, following the manufacturer’s instructions; do not force a tight fit.
Does a diagonal measurement prove a sofa will fit?
No. Both width and height of the rotated face must fit at the same angle. A door diagonal alone does not check the frame, the approach or a hallway turn.
Can removing the door help?
It can increase the clear opening only by the obstruction the door leaf creates. Enter the measured gain; the frame remains. This calculator does not assume a standard gain.
