Some listeners have dismissed Creedence Clearwater Revival through musical snobbery or an aversion to roots rock. Their earnest, country-influenced rock and direct songs could seem unfashionable in an era when radical attitudes were expected, yet the music has endured strongly. This outstanding collection of 20 hits offers abundant evidence of the band's lasting strengths. Despite making several excellent albums, Creedence was chiefly a singles band, and Chronicle gathers many of its biggest hits.
The collection moves from the gradually building groove of “Suzie Q” and the eerie, R&B-rich “I Put a Spell on You” to the forceful “Fortunate Son” and swamp-blues sound of “Run Through the Jungle.” Melancholy songs such as “Who'll Stop the Rain” and “Someday Never Comes” contrast with the bright melodies of “Down on the Corner” and “Lookin' Out My Back Door.”

Canciones melancólicas como “Who'll Stop the Rain” y “Someday Never Comes” contrastan con las melodías luminosas de “Down on the Corner” y “Lookin' Out My Back Door”.
