Key features
Product description
These recordings capture the band as a fully realized ensemble, with warmth, exuberance and a powerful concert sound throughout. They offer newcomers and longtime followers versions that may become their defining interpretations of the songs. Live engineer Xandy Whitesel and musicians Jenn Wasner, Sean Carey, Michael Lewis, Matthew McCaughan and Andrew Fitzpatrick were essential to the performances.
Vernon started assembling the release in 2020 and devoted substantial time to searching concerts for songs that would represent Bon Iver. He sees the selections as a portrait of what the band became and of the group performing at its strongest.
The result reaches beyond a compilation or concert album: it feels both new and familiar, showing different sides of an old friend and the qualities that can sometimes remain hidden. Inspired by Bob Dylan's Bootleg Series and the Neil Young Archives, the new Bon Iver archival series is intended to span the band's eras through concerts, demos, previously unreleased recordings and more.
Vernon presents these 10 songs as an invitation to listeners who have never heard Bon Iver, as well as those who heard the band before without connecting with it. The album introduction is by Matthew Strauss.
